IQUITOS TO YURIMAGUAS - 5 Days / 4 Nights
 
   

Day 1: Sunday
14:00 - Depart up river from Iquitos. Briefing on board by cruise director.
17:00 - Shore excursion to visit a small river town on the Amazon and see how the local people live in harmony with the rain forest.
19:30 - Dinner on board. Continue up river at night. Pass the juncture of the Ucayali and Marañon rivers - this is the true beginning of the Amazon River.

 

 

 

 

 

 
 
Day 2: Monday
05:30 -Early morning bird watching on the upper deck. Coffee and tea available.
07:30 - Full breakfast on board. Visit the first area of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. Sail into the beautiful black-water Lake San Martin and visit a local community and trade for handicrafts. In small boats go further into the reserve to see a birds and Amazon wildlife in this quiet, protected area.
18:00 - Sail on up river overnight. Star gazing from the upper deck.
 
Day 3: Tuesday
06:00 - Early morning bird watching excursion.
07:30 - Breakfast on board
09:00 - Excursion by small boat into the protected reserve for observation of wildlife.
12:30 - Lunch on board as you continue up river.
16:00 - Afternoon excursion to explore the jungle on foot with your guide
19:30 - Dinner on board
21:00 - Night excursion to hear the many sounds of the Amazon rain forest.
 
Day 4: Wednesday
Now turning off the Marañon River and entering the smaller, swifter Huallaga River
7:30 -Breakfast on board.
08:30 - Shore excursion and again into the forest of this huge protected area. Your guide will point out and explain about the unique and interesting plants, trees and vines.
12:30 - Lunch on board. Now the river is more narrow and shallow.
16:00 - Afternoon excursion to a small lake to see varieties of birds, monkeys and sloths.
20:00 - Last night on board. Local music.
 
Day 5: Thursday
Early morning arrival at the port of Yurimaguas. This area is connected by road to the Andean area of Peru, the coast and the rest of the country. Passengers may stay and visit this remote port then go by car for a 3 to 4 hour trip to Tarapoto, located in a cooler Andean valley. In Tarapoto, stay at a modern hotel with swimming pool, etc. Fly on to Lima or start a journey across Northern Peru and the Andes on paved roads through seldom visited pre-Incan ruins and great mountain views. Return to Lima from the coastal town of Chiclayo.
